In recent years, China’s commercial factoring market has expanded rapidly, not only the number of domestic factoring firms has increased rapidly, but also the international factoring firms with mature experience are seeking to open up the Chinese market. Stenn is headquartered in the United Kingdom, providing financial support for import and export trade between Asian and developed markets. Imp-Exp Executive magazine interviewed Kerstin Carolin Braun, president of Stenn Group, to see what competitive advantages Stenn has and why Stenn chose to stand with Chinese foreign trade enterprises.

What kind of company is Stenn? What are the reasons for Stenn to be involved in the Chinese commercial factoring market now?

Stenn is a provider of financing solutions for global trade. Our headquarters are in the United Kingdom, and we have experts around the world to provide local service to our clients. The great thing about our financing is that it provides benefits to both the exporter and the buyer. The exporter receives guaranteed payment at shipment and invoicing and the buyer receives open account terms of up to 120 days. It’s a win-win.

In addition to our expansive global coverage, we offer several additional advantages. With Stenn, exporters are able to offer open account terms to their buyers, without the worry of collections or non-payment. In many cases, we advance 100% of the invoice amount less any fees at the time of shipment and invoicing, compared to 80% from other providers. Finally, our service is easy to put into place, with no guarantee or collateral required.

Commercial factoring mainly serves small to medium-sized enterprises, but in reality, only enterprises with a certain scale can receive financing but with small limits. How does Stenn balance itself in mitigating its own risks and providing more credit lines to its clients?

Since Stenn provides factoring services on a non-recourse basis, we focus on the size and creditworthiness of the buyer, not the supplier, when determining credit lines. This makes our model really appealing for exporters of all sizes.

We are continuing to grow in China by adding staff to serve more and more exporters. We have no plans to stop now! Kerstin Braun has 20 years of experience in executive management of multinational companies focused on financial risk products. She brings proven success in top and bottom line growth, expansion of distribution channels and building sustainable partnerships,improved operational performance,product innovation, and organizational effectiveness.
Kestin joined Stenn in 2017 as Global Head of Sales, becoming President in 2018. At Stenn, she directs all areas of the company’s growth and development, including building Stenn’s global brand, charting the company’s continued expansion in terms of portfolio and footprint, and implementing technology to optimize operational performance.
Prior to Stenn, Kerstin held positions of increasing responsibility at global credit insurer Coface, first in Germany and then in the United States, most recently as Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing. Prior to that she held several management positions at Coface Germany, including Sales Director covering Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavia.
In these roles, Kerstin achieved consistent success in establishing and managing high performing passionate teams in multinational and multicultural environments. Her experience extends to strategic planning and business development, reorganization, CRM systems and process excellence programs, sales leadership, and building sustainable partnerships.
Kerstin holds a Doctor of Law degree from University of Tübingen and a PhD in Law from Universität Salzburg. She is a Professor / Guest Lecturer in International Sales Management at ESB Business School, Reutlingen University.
